OWLE Heritage Award for Lifetime Achievement

Retired Staff Sergeant Brenda Glass was honoured with the Heritage Award for Lifetime Achievement at the Ontario Women in Law Enforcement's 12th Annual Awards ceremony on April 20, 2010.
 
The award recognized Staff Sergeant Glass' years of dedication and career policing achievements.
 

OACP Provincial Crime Prevention Media Award

Constable Mike Dinsmore

Constable Mike Dinsmore received the first-ever Provincial Crime Prevention Media Award on June 16, 2010 from the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police (OACP) and the Ontario Media Relations Officers Network (OMRON).

The new award, sponsored by the Insurance Bureau of Canada, was presented to the individual who has demonstrated a commitment to crime prevention by effectively harnessing the power of the media to assist the public and their police service in the prevention of crime.

Constable Dinsmore was recognized for his 2009 'No Valuables on Board' Crime Prevention Week campaign that raised public awareness about theft from auto incidents in Halton Region and how to help prevent them.  

 

OACP Traffic Safety Initiative of the Year for Ontario Award

Halton Regional Police Service

The Halton Regional Police Service was named winner of the Traffic Safety Initiative of the Year Award for Ontario by the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police (OACP) in June, 2010. The award, presented to an Ontario police service with more than 500 members, recognizes the Service which best exemplifies the commitment of police to keep Ontario roads safe.

Chief Gary Crowell made traffic safety one of his top priorities when he assumed command in 2006. Since that time, the HRPS has restructured its traffic units to focus on education, engineering and enforcement, and has been at the forefront of several programs and partnerships, including R.I.D.E. 101, the Speedi Radar Message Board, and Safe Roads...Your Call.

 

Governor General's Certificate of Commendation

Constables Rick Dodds and Cole Repta

Constables Rick Dodds (left) and Cole Repta right of the HRPS Tactical Rescue Unit were recognized with a Governor General's Certificate of Commendation in 2010. The Commendation was created by Governor General Ray Hnatyshyn in 2003 to honour those who have provided significant assistance to another person in a selfless manner. Candidates are selected via a nomination and voting process.

The Constables received the award for a June 2009 incident involving the rescue of a suicidal woman from the balcony of an apartment building in Oakville.

Community Volunteer Award

Karen Gerrie

A volunteer with Halton Regional Police Service's Victim Services Unit and Communities on Phone Patrol (C.O.P.P.), Halton Hills resident Karen Gerrie has given more than 3,000 hours of her time over the past 12 years.

Gerrie was one of 13 Halton Region residents recognized at a May 2011 breakfast event in Oakville hosted by Volunteer Halton for her commitment to community members whose lives she touches and comforts on a regular basis.
