Enhanced Language Training
In June 2007, the Halton Regional Police Service supported a successful Citizenship & Immigration Canada grant application from the Halton Multicultural Council (HMC) for an Enhanced Language Training (ELT) program.

The first-of-its-kind in the GTA, the ELT program provides more than 250 hours of employment-specific language training and mentorship opportunities to new Canadians who have backgrounds in law enforcement and/or security, and who are interested in careers in policing.

Over a number of weeks, ELT students work directly with an HMC facilitator and meet with Halton Regional Police Service officers and recruiters to build the knowledge and skills necessary for consideration for employment opportunities with the Service.

The first group of ELT participants graduated from the program in June 2008.
