Members of the Halton Regional Police Service and Youth Respect Action Committee launched the Region’s first-ever
Give Respect Get Respect campaign in June 2009. The unique, youth-driven initiative features a series of powerful posters designed to build respect and enhance safety among young adults and the community at large.
Each poster was created by members of the Respect Youth Action Committee, a group comprised of youth (some of whom had previous contact with the police) and HRPS officers. Over the course of 21 weeks, members were led through a series of discussions around three core issues: property crime, street robbery and judging youths based on their appearance.
Posters addressing each are being placed in area schools, plazas and in Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services offices throughout the GTA.
