We understand that new Canadians living in Halton may have had different experiences with emergency services, or may not know how they enhance public safety in our region. With this in mind, the Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) in partnership with the Halton Multicultural Council, Regional Fire Departments and Halton Region Paramedic Services, have developed the Emergency Services Introduction for New Canadians (ESINC) Program.

What is the ESINC Program?

The ESINC program is presented in person to English as a Second Language (ESL) and Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada (LINC) classes across the Region. Participants are taught about how each of the emergency services operate and how they work together to serve the needs of the community. At the end of the presentation, participants will have a better understanding of:

  • Who the different emergency services are and what they do
  • How and when to call police, fire, or paramedic services
  • What to expect in an emergency
  • What the role of police is in the community
  • An understanding of current crime trends that may impact them as a new Canadian

VIRTUAL ESINC

To better support the newcomer community in Halton, we have launched our virtual ESINC program. This program was developed in partnership with the Halton Multicultural Council and the newcomers they work with to support individuals who may not be able to attend in person classes.

The virtual ESINC program contains a series of video’s translated into different languages and will be updated regularly to ensure the information being shared is current and truly meets the needs of the newcomer community we serve. You can access the virtual ESINC program below:
