The Halton Regional Police Service was called to a high rise building situate at 100 Lakeshore Road East, Oakville on Sunday August 5th 2018 at 6:53 pm to assist the Oakville Fire Dept with reports of a coolant leak in the building.
The building situated at the corner of Lakeshore Road East and Navy St was the scene of an ethylene glycol leak on the third floor of the building. As a result of the liquid leak three residents suffered exposure resulting in minor skin irratation. These residents were treated by Halton Paramedics at the scene. Due to the leak residents of 9 units on the third floor were being evacuated overnight to allow for repairs and cleaning.
Halton Police assisted at the scene of the incident with building containment and traffic management.
Ethylene glycol is a colorless, odorless, viscous dihydroxy alcohol. It has a sweet taste, but is poisonous if ingested. Ethylene glycol is the most important glycol commercially available and is manufactured on a large scale in the United States. It is used as an antifreeze and coolant, in hydraulic fluids.
