Police Successfuly Negotiate with Armed Male

The Halton Regional Police Service was called to a residence on Tansley Drive, in Oakville on Tuesday December 11th, 2018 at approximately 10:55 pm by an occupant inside the house reporting a male party inside the house was despondent and harming himself with a knife.

Upon arriving at the residence police began negotiating with the male and taking steps to ensure the safety of the other residents inside.  The male's behavior escalated, he refused police requests to disarm himself, he threatened officers and asked police to end his life.

The Halton Regional Police Service Tactical Unit and a Tactical Commander attended the scene in addition to Police Negotiators, Canine Units and Halton Paramedics. Police continued to communicate with the distressed male and police were able to safely evacuate the other residents including 3 school aged children from the residence. Negotiations continued with the 37 year old male for over 2 hours before police were able to safely take the male into custody.
