The Halton Regional Police Service is requesting submissions for the 2018 Media Awards. Dating back to 1984, these awards recognize the vital role media plays in ensuring our community remains informed. We invite you to take some time to review any incidents covered in 2018 that involved the Halton Regional Police Service. The awards are presented during our Annual Awards Night on Thursday May 16, 2019.
The Halton Regional Police Service will accept nominations from any person who has had a published article, editorial, photograph, feature story or television news segment during the 2018 calendar year capturing:
(a) the professionalism and dedication of members of the Service engaged in their duties;
(b) the spirit and intent of the Service's Community Policing programs;
(c) the human face of the members of the Service as they engage in their duties.
There are six award categories: Best Feature Story - A crime-related or community-related story that depicts the actions of the Halton Regional Police Service or its members as the primary focus. This story is front page news and is of high literary quality and originality;
Best Feature Photo - A crime-related or community-related photograph or series of photographs that tells a story without words. It may be related to an article, however the article should not be considered when reviewing the photographs as they must be able to stand alone. The photo(s) are front page news and/or are of high photographic excellence and originality;
Best Crime Story – A crime-related article that accurately documents a specific incident and reflects the victimization within the community. The Halton Regional Police Service or its members' response to the incident must play a significant role in the article;
Best Crime Photo - A crime-related photograph (single) that tells a story without words;
Best Television Feature Story – A crime prevention or community engagement related story that depicts the actions of the Halton Regional Police Service or its members as the primary focus;
Best Television Crime Story - A crime-related news story that accurately documents a specific incident, reflecting the victimization within the community. The Halton Regional Police Service or its member's response to the incident must play a significant role in the story.
