Male Arrested after Barricade Situation in Burlington

On Wednesday January 30, 2019, at 4:33 am, the Halton Regional Police Service responded to reports of an armed male who was agitated and uttering threats. Police attended the address of 2445 Glenwood School Drive in Burlington.

Upon arrival, police found an agitated 32 year old male barricaded by himself inside an apartment. The Emergency Services Unit including negotiators attended the scene to engage in dialogue with the male and to peacefully resolve the matter.

As a safety precaution, neighbouring tenants were asked to remain inside their units throughout the incident.  There was also a limited traffic road closure on Glenwood School Drive between Glendale Court and Queensway Drive (since reopened).

At 7:35 am the agitated male exited his apartment with a knife in his hand. Police used less lethal options to safely arrest the male who was then taken to a local hospital for assessment.

There is no ongoing associated risk to public safety. The incident was confined to a single apartment unit.

Police continue to investigate this occurrence and charges may be pending.

Police are asking anyone who observed anything suspicious in the area at the time or anyone with information regarding this incident to contact Detective Jared McLeod of the 3 District Criminal Investigations Bureau at 905-825-4747 ext. 2385 or ext. 2316.

Please be reminded that all persons who may possibly be charged with an offence are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
