The Halton Regional Police Service has charged a Georgetown man following an investigation into a number of thefts from vehicles in Georgetown. Throughout late May and early June, several unlocked vehicles were entered in the area of Trafalgar Road and Highway 7. After committing the thefts, the suspect made fraudulent credit and debit card purchases at local gas stations.
In the early morning hours of June 5, 2019 a Georgetown resident witnessed another theft in progress and notified police. Uniformed officers swarmed the area and a male was taken into custody. During his arrest, numerous credit cards and other stolen property were seized. A search warrant was executed at a residence in Georgetown and further property was seized.
Eldon Payne (31) of Georgetown has been charged with multiple property crime related offences including theft under $5000, fraudulent use of credit cards, and breach of probation.
Police are continuing to investigate further break and enters in the area which may be linked, and further criminal charges are pending.

You can protect yourself from falling victim to these types of crimes by ensuring that valuables are removed from your cars and that your vehicle doors are locked at all times.
