Crime Prevention Week provides an opportunity for police services to showcase examples where the Police and Community Partners are effectively working together to identify and address local risks that can lead to victimization.
This year, Crime Prevention Week will take place from November 4 to 10, 2018. This year’s theme for the Crime Prevention Week is Crime Prevention: Help Us Help You. This theme is intentionally broad so all Ontario police services can focus on specific issues of importance to their communities. Police services are encouraged in their outreach to emphasize the shared responsibility nature of crime prevention and the joint task of building up communities – together.
The following issues have been identified and coincide with recommendations made by the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police. They are: personal / sexual assaults, online and tax frauds, elder abuse, child sexual exploitation and property crimes / break and enters.
Our Service will promote Crime Prevention Week by showcasing some of the key community partners that we work together with to address crime and reduce victimization. We will promote one of these organizations each day during the week that coincide with the specific crime prevention issues identified above. We will promote these partnerships and how they impact crime prevention / victimization reduction through our social media platforms.
