Offence Description:

On the 7th of February 2017 at approximately 4:51 pm two male suspects entered the Budds BMW located at 2454 South Service Road in Oakville.

The suspects requested to speak to a Sales Representative and expressed an interest in purchasing a BMX X5 valued at over $80,000.

One suspect identified himself as a translator for the second suspect who was the buyer. The suspects made an offer to purchase the X5 to the Sales Representative. As a part of the offer process the buyer provided an Ontario drivers licence to the Sales Representative as proof of his identity. The Sales Representative brought the offer to his Sales Manager for review.

In reviewing the offer the Sales Manager had concerns with the authenticity of the drivers licence provided with the offer. The Sales Manager spoke to the General Manager and a decision was made to contact the police.

During the time delay, the buyer fled the store and was not located. Investigation by police on scene determined that the drivers licence was indeed fraudulent.

The suspect that acted as the translator, remained on scene, and was eventually charged with offences related to the incident after further investigation. The suspect identified as the buyer has not been identified at this time. The investigation is ongoing.
