Offence Description:

In June of 2019, Halton Police responded to a fraud related occurrence. The male and female are believed to have developed a bar code system that they insert over top of the actual barcode of prepaid Visa's and MasterCards before placing them back on the store shelves.

The unsuspecting consumer purchases the cards and loads funds that they believe are going onto their card; however the funds are being loaded onto another card for the suspects to make purchases.

On the 12th of the June 2019, a victim purchased a MasterCard at the Shoppers Drug Mart located at 503 Plains Road, Burlington and loaded $150.00 onto it. The victim discovered the fraudulent bar code with a different card number than the actual MasterCard located within the sealed packaging. Finding this strange, the victim checked the card and discovered that his funds were not loaded onto the card.

In speaking with MasterCard, it was determined that the fraudulent card was used at the Pump House Grill located at 40 Lakeshore Road East in Port Credit and images were captured of the suspects.
