All activated alarms prompt response by the Halton Regional Police Service, Unfortunately, false alarms consume valuable resources by removing officers from other patrol duties.
To curb incidents of false alarms (which make up the vast majority of alarm calls), the HRPS enacted By-Law #2004-002. Its objectives are to:
Annual registrations for the Halton Regional Police Service Alarm Program are submitted through alarm companies or monitoring stations.
Renewals must be received by the HRPS prior to the anniversary date of the initial registration.
Only registered premises will receive their first false alarm at no charge.
Non-registered premises still receive police response but at a higher fee than registered premises.
After the 4th false alarm, the registrant/owner of the premises is suspended for 365 days. Higher false alarm charges apply if police respond.
While under suspension, it is up to the discretion of the on-duty road Sergeant to initiate police response to an alarm call.
Note: Please add the applicable tax on the charges.
