Members of the Halton Regional Police Service Regional Fraud unit attended Edmonton, Alberta to take custody of a woman wanted in connection to a fortune telling scam that she previously ran in Oakville. Cynthia Burt, (23) operated in Oakville under the alias Jasmine BURT and its alleged that she defrauded her victim of approximately $200,000 by preying upon their vulnerable situation. Burt had advertised online as "Psychic Jasmine" and sometimes operated out of a storefront on Lakeshore Road in Oakville. This was reported to police in December 2017 and shortly after the investigation started Burt left Oakville and eventually relocated in Edmonton, Alberta.

Edmonton police also had reports of Burt defrauding victims in their area and she was ultimately arrested and charged in Alberta as well.

On June 14, 2019 fraud detectives attended Edmonton and returned Burt to Ontario where she was charged with one count of Fraud Over $5000 and one count of Harassing Phone Calls in relation to the same investigation. She will be appearing in Milton court on July 23, 2019.
