Auxiliary Officers

Becoming an Auxiliary Officer

A volunteer position as a Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) Auxiliary Officer is demanding but rewarding. Your role will make a significant contribution to the safety and well-being of the community at large.

Eligibility

Are/do you: 

• At least 18 years of age
• A Canadian Citizen or a permanent resident
• Of good moral character and habits
• Able to attend training and pass tests set by the Service
• Hold an Ontario High School Diploma or equivalent
• Able to be certified by a medical practitioner to be mentally and physically fit for duty
• Hold a valid Ontario Driver's Licence with at least a G classification and no more than 6 demerit points
• Able to follow all rules of the HRPS, and
• Able to complete the following physical requirements:
  • PREP Test (video)  
  • Music Shuttle Run (video)
  • Shuttle on Treadmill (video) 
    
  • Shuttle Run (video)

Duties of an Auxiliary Officer

• Support the work of sworn police officers on local crime prevention initiatives and patrols
• Participate in ground searches for lost or missing persons
• Volunteer at numerous, large-scale, annual events throughout the year

HRPS Auxiliary History

Founded in 1989, the HPRS Auxiliary Policing Services Unit is comprised of trained civilian volunteers.

Our 50 Auxiliary Officers average over 5,000 hours of volunteer hours annually in support of the HRPS and our community.
