Civilian Opportunities
The diverse expertise of our civilians helps our Service operate smoothly. From administrative services such as Legal, Finance, Human Resources, and Information Technology, to Units that support our frontline members including Communications and Records – a range of interesting civilian roles are available.
Civilian opportunities include permanent full/part-time, temporary full/part-time, or hours as required. Some roles may include shift work, while others reflect standard hours. Details will be included in each job posting.

As a civilian member, you will earn competitive wages and have access to comprehensive benefit and pension plans.
Civilian Benefits
For eligible members, group health/dental benefits coverage is effective the first of the month following the date of hire. This coverage includes:
Reimbursement for prescription eyeglasses or contact lenses every 24 months.

- Less than one year of continuous service: Vacation hours will be prorated per month for each month of continuous service up to a maximum of 105 hours;
- One year of continuous service: 105 hours of paid vacation;
- Five years of continuous service: 126 hours of paid vacation;
- Ten years of continuous service: 147 hours of paid vacation;
- Fifteen years of continuous service: 182 hours of paid vacation:
- Twenty years of continuous service: 217 hours of paid vacation;
- Twenty-five years of continuous service: 245 hours of paid vacation;
- Thirty years of continuous service: 280 hours of paid vacation;
- More than 30 years of continuous service: 280 hours of paid vacation, plus an additional seven hours per year of service to a maximum of 315 hours.
Annually, civilian members are entitled to twelve named holidays, plus one unnamed day:

HRPS civilian employees have a normal retirement age of 65.
The HRPS contributes to the Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement System (OMERS) Pension Plan.
Civilian members are eligible to receive a maximum of $3,000 per year for successful completion of part-time studies and courses.

Pre-employment, Job Specific Testing
Testing requirements vary depending on the position, but typically assesses an applicant's relevant skills and knowledge. Applicants must meet the standard in order to proceed in the process.
Behavioural Interview
A panel interview will focus on the essential skills identified for the position, which applicants must demonstrate that they possess.
Specialized Testing
Certain positions require additional testing, and may or may not include psychological testing.
Background and Security Clearance
Background and security clearances may include a records check, reference checks and confirmation of employment history, and verification of educational qualifications.
Offer
The candidates who demonstrate the best overall suitability will be offered the position.
