Requirements for Experienced Officers
All serving officers in Canada must have:
Completed a program of police recruit training in Canada
Completed their probationary period with their respective police service prior to submitting their application for employment
Be in good standing with their current police service
Requirements for Out-of-Province Experienced Officers
Requirements for Military Police Officers:
Military Police are encouraged to apply through the CONSTABLE stream as doing so enables our Recruiting team to determine the nature and amount of police-related experience. Once a determination is made at the interview stage, an applicant may be moved into the Experienced Officer stream. All applicants will be required to participate in and successfully complete each stage of the recruitment process to be considered for employment.
The Ontario Police College (OPC) recognizes Military Police as an institution that provides recruit training deemed to be equivalent to Ontario Basic Constable training. Applicants with military police experience who bring an acceptable amount of police-related experience and have the opportunity to proceed through the Experienced Officer stream will be required to complete the OPC Equivalency Exam. A mark of 75% in each of the academic subjects must be achieved to move forward in the application process.
If a passing mark is not achieved, the applicant must attend the Ontario Police College Basic Constable Training.
We welcome and accept applications for the position of Constable and Experienced Officer from applicants residing outside of Canada. All international applicants will be required to fulfill the same process as Canadian applicants for the Constable position.

Stages of the Selection Process
Applicants who make it to the next round must complete:
Pre-Interview Questionnaire (PIQ): If you are successful through the application screening process, you will be asked to complete an electronic Pre-Interview Questionnaire (PIQ). Your PIQ will be reviewed by a Recruiting Officer who will determine whether you advance to the next stage.
Experienced Officer Interview (EOI): You will be invited to meet with a panel of two Recruiting Officers for a blended Local Focus Interview and Essential Competencies Interview.
OPC Equivalency Exam: If successful in the interview, all out-of-province and potential military police candidates will be registered to write the OPC Equivalency Exam and be provided with study material.
Psychological Assessment: The next stage is completing the psychological testing questionnaire and subsequent interview with our Psychologist.
Background Investigation: The next stage in the selection process involves a designated Background Investigator who conducts a thorough check of all the information gathered during the process. This includes, but is not limited to, references provided, educational documents, employment history, credit and cyber checks, and meeting you and your family during a home visit. During this stage, you will also be required to complete a medical assessment.
Final Selection Report: All the information gathered during the process is summarized and submitted for review. Successful applicants will receive an Offer of Employment.
Candidates who are offered uniform position may:

Be subject to transfer to any of the four Divisions or Headquarters at the discretion of the HRPS
Successful candidates will:
Have his/her/their length of continuous police service as a uniform officer recognized for the purpose of calculating the amount of annual vacation pay. The vacation pay will be pro-rated in accordance with the HRPS Collective Agreement.
To be eligible for the Retention Incentive Premium, a member must have completed eight (8) years of service with the HRPS in accordance with the Service's Collective Agreement.
Annual Leave: You will have your prior service as a Sworn Officer of any other Canadian police service reviewed and recognized for the purpose of calculating vacation entitlement. The qualifying condition for this vacation entitlement is that there is no unbroken service for a period of beyond 90 days.
Benefits: As part of our Uniform Collective Agreement, members begin receiving benefits on the first day of employment with the HRPS.
Classification: Your past police service will determine your advancement and eligible reclassification dates.
Pension Plan: The HRPS contributes to the OMERS Pension Plan. Experienced officers with a different plan shall contact OMERS to determine if their current plan is transferable.
Postings: As a uniform member, you will be posted to one of the Service’s Districts (Oakville, Burlington, Milton, or Georgetown), and will be subject to transfer at any time, to any District at the discretion of the HRPS.
Retention: To meet eligibility requirements for the retention incentive premium, you must complete eight years of service with the HRPS.
