Burlington Auto Theft Leads to Multiple Criminal Charges

The Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) has arrested two teens and laid multiple charges following a multi-jurisdictional crime spree.

On April 15, 2026, at approximately 6:35 am, a male was outside of his vehicle delivering a package to a residence on Kempling Lane in Burlington when his vehicle, a Toyota SUV, was entered and stolen by a male who was observed arriving with a second male in a Toyota minivan. Both vehicles then fled the area.

A short time later the Toyota minivan was found abandoned on Bunton Crescent after being involved in a single vehicle accident. Upon abandoning the Toyota minivan both suspects then fled in the stolen Toyota SUV.

The driver of the Toyota SUV did not sustain any physical injuries. No weapons were seen or used. Investigation further determined the Toyota van as stolen from Hamilton.

Members of the 3 District Criminal Investigations Bureau (CIB) took carriage of the investigation and through various investigative means were able to positively identify the two involved suspects, further linking them to a theft from a vehicle incident which occurred in Oakville earlier the same morning. The victims credit cards were taken and used by the suspects at various locations.

On the evening of April 15, 2026, investigators executed a Criminal Code search warrant at a residence in Hamilton where two teen males, aged 15 and 13, were taken into custody.

As a result of the investigation a 15 year old male of Hamilton has been charged with the following:

  •          Theft of Motor Vehicle
  •          Possession of Property Obtained by Crime – Over $5000
  •          Theft Under $5000
  •          Fraud Under $5000
  •          Failure to Stop after an Accident
  •          Fail to Comply Being on a Release Order (2 Counts)

A 13 Year old male of Hamilton has been charged with the following:

  •          Theft of Motor Vehicle
  •          Possession of Property Obtained by Crime – Over $5000
  •          Theft Under $5000
  •          Fraud Under $5000
  •          Failure to Stop after an Accident
  •          Fail to Comply Being on an Undertaking

Both have been held in custody pending a bail hearing in Milton.

A general provision of the Youth Criminal Justice Act (Y.C.J.A.) prohibits the release of the name of a Young Person, and therefore, the identities of the young persons charged in this investigation are protected.
