Halton Police Arrest High Risk & Wanted Sex Offender in Burlington

The Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) has arrested a high-risk registered sex offender under the strength of a Canada-Wide Warrant.

On Tuesday June 9th, 2026, HRPS officers located an unoccupied vehicle registered to 66-year-old Christopher Watts parked at LaSalle Park in Burlington.

Watts was wanted on a Canada-Wide warrant and was unlawfully at large for violating his supervision conditions in the Montreal area.

Police conducted surveillance on the vehicle until a safe opportunity to arrest Watts became available. He was arrested later that evening in Hamilton by HRPS officers.

Watts was released from custody on May 28th and was to report immediately to a halfway house in Montreal where he was to reside. He reported as scheduled but escaped from the halfway house and on June 4th, 2026, a Canada Wide Warrant was issued for him.

Watts completed a 12-year prison sentence in 2015 after being found guilty of Manslaughter, Sexual Assault and Sexual Interference in the 2001 death of a 13-year-old girl in Ontario.

After completing his sentence in 2015, he was placed on a long-term supervision order.

Investigators are working to establish Watt's activities during the 5 days between his escape and arrest. Anyone who may have information relevant to the investigation is encouraged to contact police. A photo of Watt’s and his vehicle have been attached to this media release.
