Halton Police Conclude 2025 Festive RIDE Campaign

The Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) has concluded its 2025 Festive RIDE (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) campaign, which ran from November 21, 2025, to January 1, 2026. While officers conducted significantly more roadside checks this year, impaired driving continues to be a concern on Halton roads.

During the 2025 campaign, officers administered 875 roadside tests, an increase from 507 tests in 2024 and 621 tests in 2023.

As a result of enforcement efforts this year:

  • 43 drivers were arrested for alcohol-impaired driving
  • Five drivers were arrested for drug-impaired driving
  • One driver was charged with refusal
  • 14 drivers received three-day roadside licence suspensions
  • One driver received a seven-day roadside licence suspension

In comparison, the 2024 Festive RIDE campaign resulted in 48 impaired driving arrests, 10 roadside suspensions, and 507 roadside tests, while the 2023 campaign resulted in 53 impaired driving arrests, 17 roadside suspensions, and 621 roadside tests.

“While it’s encouraging to see a strong enforcement presence and increased testing this year, impaired driving remains a persistent issue,” said Staff Sergeant Ryan Smith, Community Services, Halton Regional Police Service. “Every impaired driver we remove from the road reduces the risk of serious injury or death. Our message remains clear — impaired driving is dangerous, illegal, and completely preventable.”

The HRPS reminds residents that impaired driving includes alcohol, drugs, or a combination of both, and that drivers may face criminal charges, immediate roadside suspensions, vehicle impounds, and long-term consequences even at blood-alcohol levels below the criminal threshold.

Police continue to urge drivers to plan ahead, arrange a safe ride home, or use alternative transportation if consuming alcohol or drugs.

Anyone who suspects an impaired driver is encouraged to call 9-1-1 immediately.
