Children's Safety Village

Kindergarten: Pedestrian Safety

Children will learn about pedestrian safety and how to safely cross the road. They will also be given the opportunity to practice what they were taught with a walk through the Children's Safety Village.

Grade 1: Railway Safety

Children will learn about railway safety through material provided by CN Rail and an interactive walk through the Children's Safety Village.

Grade 2: Road Safety

Children will learn about road safety and its importance to overall community safety. They will also be given the opportunity to practice what they were taught by driving miniature cars throughout the Children's Safety Village.

Grade 3: Bike & Scooter Safety

Children will learn the basics of bike safety, including instruction on traffic arm signals and helmet laws. They will solidify what they were taught by riding scooters throughout the Children's Safety Village.

Kindergarten: Community Helpers

Children will learn about different community helpers and the role they play in keeping us and our community safe. They will also participate in hands-on, community helper-themed play centres.

Grade 1: Introduction to Emergencies and 9-1-1

Children will learn the difference between an emergency and non-emergency. They will learn when it is appropriate to call 9-1-1 and practice sharing the important information they will be asked for during an emergency call. 

Kindergarten - Grade 3

*New* Fire Safety Program with Halton Fire Departments (Oakville, Milton, and Burlington Fire Services)

The Kindergarten to Grade 3 Fire Safety Program focuses on teaching students about community helpers, fire prevention, fire detection, and emergency escape. Students learn to stay away from hot things that can burn, recognize the sounds of fire safety devices like smoke alarms, and understand what to do when they hear them beep. The program also covers emergency escape planning, including the importance of having a designated outside meeting place and knowing how to call 9-1-1 in an emergency.

Grades 4-5

*New* Online Safety

Students will learn how to safely explore the internet. They explore the basics of internet safety, how to handle cyberbullying, protect personal information, and how to use social media responsibly. This program is only offered virtually.

Explore the Children’s Safety Village by foot or take a ride in our miniature cars (must be 32-54 inches tall to ride) at our Back-to-School Open House!

Not feeling up for a ride? There will be crafts, snacks, tattoos, and stickers too. This event is FREE to attend and does not require registration. Donations of back-to-school supplies such as pencils, pens, markers, and notebooks will be collected.

Youth between the ages of 7 and 10 will have fun learning about bike safety and practicing their riding skills at our FREE Bike Rodeo event. Some helmets will be available but we kindly ask that you bring your own if you are able to do so. Bikes will be provided.

Join us as we ring in the holiday season with crafts, carols, holiday treats, and an abundance of holiday lights. Don’t forget to have your picture taken with Santa and Mrs. Claus when you're there. Registration is not required and is FREE to attend.
