Halton Regional Police Service Auxiliary Officer recruits attend mandatory classes one evening a week for four (4) months during their training period, generally from February to June. Some training also occurs on weekends. 

HRPS Auxiliary Officers are trained to perform assigned duties:

  • General patrol and related activities
  • Powers of arrest
  • Use of communications equipment
  • Notetaking
  • Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms
  • Provinical Offences Act 
  • Highway Traffic Act
  • Search and seizure
  • Use of force
  • Critical incident stress and management
  • Health and fitness
  • First Aid and CPR
  • Crowd control
  • Dress and decorum
  • Preservation of scenes of crime
  • Drill training
