Halton Police to Launch Project Safe Start 2026

The Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) will launch its annual Project Safe Start campaign, reminding drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians to make safety a priority as students return to school.

The 2026 campaign marks the 19th annual Project Safe Start, a longstanding HRPS initiative focused on promoting road safety and protecting students and other road users as the new school year begins.

As part of Project Safe Start, HRPS officers will be conducting increased enforcement in school zones across Halton Region.

Media are invited to attend this year’s launch and hear from HRPS Chief of Police, Stephen Tanner, in person as he highlights the importance of road safety in and around school zones.

When: Tuesday, September 8, 2026, at 10 a.m.

Where: Outside of West Oak Public School (2071 Fourth Line, Oakville)

2025 Results

Between September 2 and 12, 2025, a combined 2,252 charges were laid and 637 warnings were issued across the Halton region.

The most common offences were Disobey Stop Sign, Speeding and Fail to Surrender Insurance Card.
