2026 Commercial Motor Vehicle Enforcement Blitz Results
The Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) is pleased to share the results of the annual Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) Enforcement Blitz that was held at Woodbine Mohawk Park on October 6 and 7 2026.
Working with in excess of 100 police officers and ministry inspectors from police services and agencies across the Greater Toronto Area and South Western Ontario, a total of 312 trucks were subject to mandatory inspections over the 2-day event.
Police Officers and Ministry of Transportation Officers, who receive specialized training in commercial truck inspections, and are Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance certified Inspectors, identified 158 Trucks (51%) with prescribed defects and placed 100 trucks (32%) out of service until critical repairs were completed. Areas of concern included driver licensing, daily trip inspections, along with truck-oriented issues which included mechanical fitness, load security, and weights of trucks and loads. Brake and Tire defects made up the bulk of the mechanical defects observed.
Further, additional aspects of inspections were conducted, including the deployment of a Ministry of Transportation Mobile field X-Ray unit which is used for the purposes of ensuring compliance with load security regulations and compliance with the Dangerous Goods Transportation Act, and Inspectors from the Ministry of Finance who conducted 185 inspections for violations of the Fuel Tax Act/International Fuel Tax Agreement and the Tobacco Tax Act.
A total of 195 charges were laid for various defects and infractions with a further 44 written warnings. A total of 9 trucks were also found to be in such a sufficiently deteriorated state that the license plates were seized forcing the truck owner to make repairs to recertify and re-plate the vehicle.
“The Halton Regional Police Service is pleased to host this important event and grateful to the many services and agencies from across the province that have come together to help ensure the continued safety of commercial vehicles travelling our roadways.” Said Deputy Chief of Specialized Support Kevin Maher “This year’s results are a testament to the dedication and hard work of our inspectors, while also serving as a reminder to commercial vehicle operators of the importance of ensuring their vehicles are properly maintained and fit for daily operation.”
