Caledon Man Charged With Sexual Assault

The Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) has arrested and charged a Caledon man with sexual assault following an investigation in Burlington.

In April 2026, a teenaged female victim contacted police to report being sexually assaulted by a male at a residence in Burlington.

Members of the HRPS Child Abuse and Sexual Assault Unit assumed carriage of the investigation and learned that the victim had responded to a Kijiji advertisement posted by the accused seeking cleaning assistance at a construction site. After accepting the position, the victim met with the accused, who transported her to a residence undergoing renovations, where the assault occurred.

The victim did not sustain any physical injuries.

As a result of the investigation, on October 26, 2026, Varinder Chahal (51) of Caledon, was arrested and charged with one count of sexual assault.

Chahal was released on an Undertaking with a future court date in Milton.

At the time of the assault Chahal was working as a contractor under the company name of “Chahal Renovations” and hired the victim to assist with general cleaning duties at the residence where the assault took place.

Investigators are concerned there may be additional victims, and a photo of the accused has been included in this media release.

Anyone with information on this investigation, or anyone who has been victimized by the accused is asked to contact the Child Abuse and Sexual Assault Unit at 905-825-4777 ext. 8970.

Sexual assault is any touching of another person without their consent where the touching is of a sexual nature, or where the sexual integrity of the victim is violated. A sexual assault can range from unwanted touching to sexual assault involving penetration.

There is no statute of limitation when it comes to reporting a sexual assault. This means that no matter how long ago the sexual assault happened, you can still report it to police for investigation.

Victims of violence and/or sexual assault can contact the Halton Regional Police Service Victim Services Unit at 905-825-4777 for support.
