Fatal Hit and Run Collision in Burlington
***UPDATE*** September 2, 2026
The Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) has identified and arrested the driver involved in the fatal collision that took place in Burlington on the afternoon of August 27.
On Tuesday, September 1, William McArthur (61) of Hamilton was arrested in Oakville. He has been charged with Failure to Stop at Accident involving Death.
He was released from custody pending his next court appearance on November 25, 2026.

The Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) is investigating a fatal hit and run collision in Burlington.
On Thursday, August 27, 2026, at approximately 3:45 p.m., police were called to the area of Maple Avenue and Richmond Road in Burlington. An adult female pedestrian was struck by a vehicle that fled the scene. Tragically, the pedestrian was pronounced deceased at the scene of the collision.
A photo of the suspect vehicle is attached to this media release. The vehicle was last seen travelling northbound on Maple Avenue. The car is described as a dark coloured sedan and police expect it would have damage to the front of the vehicle.
