Fraud Investigation at Serbian Orthodox Diocese of Canada Leads to Arrest

The Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) has made an arrest and laid one charge after a fraud investigation at the Serbian Orthodox Diocese of Canada located in Milton.

The Financial Crimes Unit initiated an investigation in August 2026 following allegations that the former Secretary of the Serbian Orthodox Diocese of Canada had submitted fraudulent expense claims and improperly redirected funds intended for the Diocese into accounts under his personal control.

Following an extensive investigation, investigators determined that the alleged fraudulent activity resulted in financial losses exceeding $200,000.

On October 21, 2026, investigators arrested and charged Jovan Marjanac (40) of Wingham Ontario. He has been charged with one count of Fraud Over $5,000.
