Immigration Fraud Investigation Leads to Arrest

The Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) has made an arrest following an investigation into immigration fraud.

The accused, Kishorbhai Patel, also known as “Kishor Patel,” allegedly portrayed himself as a lawyer and legal expert operating under the names ProLaw Canada Corporation LLP and Canadian International Business Corporation. Investigators have confirmed that Patel is not licensed to practice law.

Between October 2025 and January 2026, the victims sought assistance with their work permit and permanent residency applications and sent multiple payments to the accused.

On October 8, 2026, Kishorbhai Patel, 55, of Etobicoke, was arrested in Oakville.

He has been charged with one count of fraud over $5,000.

Anyone with information about this investigation, or who believes they may also be a victim, is asked to contact the HRPS Financial Crimes Unit at 905-825-4777, ext. 8742.

Protect Yourself from Immigration Fraud

The HRPS encourages anyone seeking immigration assistance to take steps to protect themselves from fraud. Before hiring a representative, verify their credentials and confirm they are authorized to provide the services being offered.

In Ontario, the public can use the Law Society of Ontario’s online directory at lso.ca to verify a lawyer’s licensing and practicing status.

Immigration consultants can be verified through the College of Immigration and Citizenship Consultants.

Other precautions include obtaining a written agreement outlining the services and fees, requesting receipts for payments, and being cautious of anyone who guarantees an immigration outcome or pressures you to pay immediately.
