Deputy Chief Roger Wilkie
As Deputy Chief of Frontline Operations for the Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS), Deputy Chief Roger Wilkie is responsible for the following areas:
- 1 District (Town of Milton and Town of Halton Hills)
- 2 District (Town of Oakville)
- 3 District (City of Burlington)
- Information Technology and Innovation portfolios
Biography
Deputy Chief Roger Wilkie began his career with the Halton Regional Police Service in 1996. Over the years, he has served in uniform operations in the Town of Milton, Town of Halton Hills, the City of Burlington, and the Town of Oakville. He has worked in the Drug Unit, Mobile Surveillance Unit, Homicide Unit, Criminal Investigations Bureau, Intimate Partner Violence Unit, and as the Executive Officer to the Deputy Chief.
Deputy Chief Wilkie has also led several areas of the Service, including as Operations Commander in Milton and Halton Hills, District Commander in Oakville, Critical Incident Commander for major public safety incidents, and Commander of Emergency Services, Training, and Human Resource Services.
He was appointed Deputy Chief in 2018 and has since led all the Service’s operational and administrative portfolios.
He holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology and Criminology and has continued his education at Dalhousie University and the University of Toronto's Rotman School of Management.
Deputy Chief Wilkie is the recipient of the Police Exemplary Service Medal (2016) and King Charles III Coronation Medal (2025). In 2019, he was invested as a Member of the Order of Merit of the Police Forces by the Governor General of Canada and in 2026 he was promoted to Officer within the Order for his provincial and national contributions to policing and public safety.
Deputy Chief Wilkie continues to serve on the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police (OACP) Board of Directors where he has held several roles since 2018, including President in 2024-2025. Roger currently sits on the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police (CACP) Board of Directors representing the Province of Ontario on national public safety matters and he formerly co-chaired the CACP Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Committee. He is also honoured to serve as the Vice-Chair of the Canadian Police Knowledge Network Board of Directors.
As a proud resident of Halton region, Deputy Chief Wilkie has contributed to his community through various volunteer activities, including Chair of the Executive Board of Directors for the Reach Out Centre for Kids (ROCK) from 2016-2024.
Deputy Chief Wilkie believes that community safety and well-being is a shared responsibility and prioritizes the mobilization and engagement of our community and key stakeholders to ensure that Halton region is as safe tomorrow as it is today. He believes in the importance of collaborative and coordinated service delivery and was instrumental in the development of the region's Situation Table Strategy and Community Safety and Well-Being Plan.
