Mobile Crisis Rapid Response Teams (MCRRT)
Our Mobile Crisis Rapid Response Teams (MCRRT) are a joint initiative between the HRPS, St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton and Halton Healthcare (HHC) designed to provide immediate, co-response to emergency mental health calls. Made up of police officers, psychologists, and mental health professionals, they are trained to defuse or de-escalate crisis situations, advocating for people in crisis and ensuring mental health assessments are completed where they are needed most.
HRPS’ role centers on frontline response, safety, and coordination, while healthcare partners lead clinical assessment, treatment planning, and continuity of care. The HHC pilot represents a scalable model aimed at addressing increasing demand and diverting individuals from emergency departments and the justice system. This “care in the community” approach allows HHC clinicians to conduct ongoing support when not attending crisis calls, reducing repeat calls for service and reliance on police intervention.
