Attachment 1: 6230-Stockings for Seniors - 2019.jpg
The Halton Regional Police Service is collecting gifts for the 4th annual Stockings For Senior's event.
Stockings For Senior's (S.O.S.) is an initiative that commenced in 2016 and involves collecting small "Christmas stocking" size gifts to give to seniors staying in long term care facilities on Christmas morning. Last year S.O.S. collected enough gifts to fill over 500 stockings/gift bags, giving every resident at Allendale Long Term Care Facility in Milton and the Bennett Health Care Center in Georgetown a stocking.
Items being collected for both men and women include: shampoo, body wash (unscented), body lotion (unscented), deodorant, non-slip socks/slippers, night gown/pajamas, diabetic candies, nail polish, chocolates etc. Other items appreciated can be word books, pencil crayons, small puzzles, and small games.
Detective Constable Sarah McCullagh has spear-headed the initiative for the past three years and is hoping enough donations are collected to be able to expand to other senior programs and drop in centers.
"We are encouraging people to be creative with any gift that can fit in a stocking or small gift bag. All donations can be dropped off at the Halton Regional Police Milton station located at 490 Childs Drive, Milton by December 16, 2019." said McCullagh.
