Social Media Credited with Impaired Driving Arrest

Halton Regional Police are crediting social media and an astute citizen in taking an impaired driver off the streets in Milton.

Shortly after midnight on December 24th, a citizen called 911 to report they had just watched an Instagram video that a third party posted of a male driver stopped in a turn lane facing a green light, slumped over the wheel.  This was at the intersection of Bronte Street and Steeles Avenue.  An officer was nearby and quickly found the subject vehicle travelling southbound from the intersection going between 5-10 km/h.

A traffic stop was initiated and the driver was arrested for suspected impaired driving.  He was taken to a police station for a breath test where he blew double the lawful limit.

The year old Milton resident has been charged with Operation while Impaired - alcohol and drugs Operation while Impaired - blood alcohol concentration.  He will make his first court appearance on January 27th, 2020.  His licence has been suspended for 90 days and his vehicle impounded for 7 days.
