January is National Crime Stoppers Month - Creating Partnerships Against Crime

Media Release and Media InviteDate and Time: Thursday, January 16, 2020 - 6:00PM-7:30PMLocation: 2485 North Service Rd W, Oakville

January is National Crime Stoppers Month

January is "Crime Stoppers Month" in where each program takes to publicly highlight their successes and thank their sponsors and supporters.  It's an opportunity to acknowledge the tremendous support from Halton residents and all the work the volunteers do to help keep Halton safe.

This year, Crime Stoppers of Halton is hosting a free event on January 16th from 6:00pm-7:30pm at Halton Regional Police Service Headquarters to allow residents to speak to members of Crime Stoppers, HRPS and program supporters.

The theme for 2020 is "Creating Partnerships Against Crime".  Crime Stoppers programs across Canada work within their communities to educate and bring awareness to crimes such as Opioid and Fentanyl trafficking, contraband smuggling, human trafficking, retail thefts, email and phone scams, assaults and unsolved crimes.  Crime Stoppers of Halton is committed to working with community partners to educate the residents of Halton.

Crime Stoppers of Halton is celebrating their 32rd year of operations, in which they proudly recognize National Crime Stoppers Month.

Crime Stoppers of Halton has paid out over $60,000 in reward money for the positive results of these tips.   Because Crime Stoppers is non-profit, they rely on donations from the public to run the program and pay out the rewards. One of the biggest challenges Crime Stoppers face is relaying that they are indeed a charity, independent of government and the Police.  Crime Stoppers is run by an independent board of directors who all volunteer a great deal of time and effort to the organization.  Crime Stoppers of Halton hold several fundraisers during the year, including the Spring and Fall Shred Event; however, donations any time of year are gratefully accepted.

The Board of Directors remain steadfast in their desire to provide a service that allows all residents of Halton Regional an avenue in which to be "part of the solution"; an avenue upon which, through anonymous tips, has assisted towards the seizure of over 20 million dollars in drugs and recovered stolen property from the Region of Halton.
