Shortly after 7:30 p.m. on February 9, 2020, the Halton Regional Police Service received a call regarding a male adult and his 4-year-old daughter who had not returned from a hike at Rattlesnake Point Conservation Area. The pair had arrived at the Conservation Area between 2:30 p.m. and 3:00 p.m., and were expected to return by 5:30 p.m.

Given the weather conditions and challenging terrain, the Halton Regional Police Service deployed signficant resources including Search Incident Response Team (SIRT), the Mobile Command Unit, frontline officers from all three districts, our K9 Unit, our Tactical Rescue Unit to search Rattlesnake Point and the surrounding area.

At approximately 11:06 p.m., the bodies of a male adult and female child were located by our officers within the Conservation Area. Milton Fire is assisting with the recovery efforts.

Next of kin has been notified, and the investigation is ongoing at this time.

Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the deceased. This is an unimaginable tragedy, and we grieve with them at this time.

We will be holding a media availability at our HQ (2485 North Service Rd. W., Oakville) at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, February 10, 2020.
