The Halton Regional Police Service in partnership with the Ministry of Children and Youth Services will once again be offering the Youth in Policing Initiative (Y.I.P.I.) Program. Y.I.P.I. is a paid employment program with the Halton Regional Police Service for youth attending a secondary school program. The goal of Y.I.P.I. is to give six young people an opportunity to develop job skills while enhancing police and community relations. The program is for interested youth with leadership potential including those who may see themselves as experiencing barriers to personal growth, success and who would benefit from this opportunity.
Over the summer, Y.I.P.I. students will experience hands-on demonstrations and presentations from various units to learn about the roles uniformed officers and civilian members play within the Halton Regional Police Service. Students will gain valuable life and employment skills through various roles both within the Police Service and from community outreach opportunities. Students will also participate in programs designed to increase personal wellbeing which include mental health training and physical fitness activities.
The program will run from July 4 to August 25, 2017 and will provide the students with approximately 35 working hours per week. The participants will work in various sections of the Halton Regional Police Service, support community initiatives and learn valuable life and employment skills.
