Deputy Chief of Frontline Operations – Roger Wilkie
As Deputy Chief of Frontline Operations for the Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS), Deputy Chief Roger Wilkie is responsible for the following areas of the HRPS:
- 1 District (Town of Milton and Town of Halton Hills)
- 2 District (Town of Oakville)
- 3 District (City of Burlington)
- Information Technology and Innovation Portfolios
Biography
Deputy Chief Roger Wilkie began his career with the HRPS in 1996. Over the years, he has served in uniform operations in the Town of Milton, Town of Halton Hills, the City of Burlington and the Town of Oakville. He has worked in the Drug Unit, Mobile Surveillance Unit, Homicide Unit, Criminal Investigations Bureau, Domestic Violence Unit and as the Executive Officer to the Deputy Chief.
Deputy Chief Wilkie has also led several areas of the Service, including as Operations Commander in Milton and Halton Hills, District Commander in Oakville, Critical Incident Commander for major public safety incidents, and Commander of Emergency Services, Training, and Human Resource Services.
He was appointed to Deputy Chief in 2018 and has since led all of the Service’s operational and administrative portfolios. Deputy Chief Wilkie currently oversees Frontline Operations, Information Technology, and our Innovation portfolios.
He holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology and Criminology and has continued his education at Dalhousie University. He is also a graduate of the Police Leadership Program and Executive Leadership Program from the University of Toronto's Rotman School of Management.
In 2016, Deputy Chief Wilkie was the recipient of the Police Exemplary Service Medal. In 2019, he was invested as a Member of the Order of Merit of the Police Forces by the Governor General of Canada.
Deputy Chief Wilkie is the President of the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police and a board member of the Canadian Police Knowledge Network. He has also co-chaired the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police - Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Committee.
As a proud resident of the Halton region, Deputy Chief Wilkie has served the community through various volunteer activities, including as Chair of the Executive Board of Directors for the Reach Out Centre for Kids (ROCK).
Deputy Chief Wilkie believes that community safety and well-being is a shared responsibility, and is committed to mobilizing and engaging residents and key stakeholders to ensure that the Region of Halton is as safe tomorrow as it is today. He believes in the importance of collaborative and coordinated service delivery and was instrumental in the development of the Halton region's Situation Table Strategy and Community Safety and Well-being Plan.
As an EDI champion, Deputy Chief Wilkie works with our diverse membership and many internal and external stakeholders to drive positive change, build a healthy and inclusive workplace, and foster continued community trust and confidence in the HRPS.
