The Legal Services Department provides a full range of legal support to the Halton Regional Police Service, the Chief of Police, The Regional Municipality of Halton, and the Halton Police Board.

This includes, but is not limited to, offering advice and representation in relation to criminal, provincial, civil, and corporate law, drafting legal documents, and preparing responses to court motions, applications and orders, managing civil actions, claims, and applications brought against the Halton Police Board, the Chief of Police, and other Service members, and prosecuting discipline matters under the Community Safety and Policing Act, 2019.

Legal Documents

  • Requests by way of Motions or Applications for officer notes, occurrence reports, and other police records required for civil proceedings can be served electronically to LegalServices@haltonpolice.ca
  • Requests for records by Legal Representatives or Insurance Companies with Authorization of their clients are available electronically through the Freedom of Information Unit.
  • Interviews or direct questioning of officers in relation to civil proceedings will not be granted.  Questions may be directed to LegalServices@haltonpolice.ca in writing.
  • Please contact LegalServices@haltonpolice.ca to make arrangements for personal service of Summons to Witness upon any member of Halton Regional Police Service.
