The Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) recognizes how youth have had an impact within the community and have used their voices to effect change. The Youth Advisory Council promotes a partnership between youth in our community and HRPS. Our goals with the Youth Advisory Council are to:

  • Advise our Police Service on how our policies, programs, and outreach initiatives are impacting youth living in Halton region.
  • Understand how changes to our current programs and services can better serve youth in our community.

Selection Criteria

The Youth Advisory Council will be representative of the community we serve. Applicants must:

  • Be 14-18 years of age
  • Reside in Halton region
  • Pass a criminal background check
  • Attend monthly meetings for a period of one (1) year

Note: If you have a criminal record or charges pending, you may still apply for the Youth Advisory Council.

Why we created a Youth Advisory Council

  • Be a source of positive change through inclusion and collaboration with local youth and the Police Service.
  • Highlight our Police Service's commitment to youth development and leadership.
  • Ensure we have a point of reference within the community to guide us in future services aimed at youth.
  • Help address obstacles in Police and youth engagement.
  • Promote volunteering within the community and Police Service.
  • Create youth leaders who can promote the work we are doing within the community.
  • Assist our Police Service in the development of other Equity, Diversity and Inclusion programs.
