The Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS), in partnership with the Ministry of Children and Youth Services, is proud to offer the Youth in Policing Initiative (YIPI).

About YIPI

YIPI is a paid summer employment program with the HRPS for youth currently enrolled in a secondary school program. YIPI provides students with approximately 35 hours of work per week and runs for eight weeks.

Eligibility for YIPI

The program is for interested youth with leadership potential including those who may see themselves as experiencing barriers to personal growth and success.

In order to be considered for the Y.I.P.I. program, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a resident of Halton region
  • Are between the ages 15-17
  • Are eligible to work in Canada
  • Seek work experience / job skills training
  • Would benefit from this developmental opportunity regarding leadership and civic responsibility
  • Successfully complete the recruitment / background check process
  • Agree to a mentor relationship
  • Will be returning to a Halton high school in September

Goal and Mandate of YIPI

The goal of YIPI is to give young people an opportunity to develop job skills, while enhancing police and community relations.

The mandate of this program is:

  • To promote youth participation in the work environment through diverse, educational and productive work assignments
  • To enhance the relationship between the police and the youth we serve
  • To provide positive employment opportunities for youth
  • To promote the Halton Regional Police Service as an employer of choice
