As part of the Halton Regional Police Service’s Community Safety and Well-Being Framework, one of the four priorities of focus is traffic safety. With the creation of the Youth Team, there has been an identified need to place a stronger emphasis on supporting our young and inexperienced drivers. This includes developing initiatives aimed at educating young motorists about the importance of road safety to mitigate risk to them and others in the community.
The Steering in the Right Direction initiative is founded on the belief that every young person deserves the chance to succeed, regardless of their background or circumstances. Through education, mentorship, and hands-on support, we strive to guide these youth toward a brighter future, while fostering a stronger, more resilient community.
Program Goals:
In partnership with Halton Community Housing, Arthouse, the Ministry of Transportation, and Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), the goal of this initiative is to provide underserved youth with the opportunity to obtain their G1 driver’s license, an essential step toward independence, responsibility, and future success.
