The Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) Vulnerable Person Registry is a service that allows a family member or caregiver to provide information to police about a person, which can help during an emergency. Details such as physical description, habits, or specific needs can help police in locating or interacting with the person.

Who is a Vulnerable Person?

A Vulnerable Person may have a medical, mental health, or physical condition, which can pose a danger to themselves or others. A Vulnerable Person may have a tendency to wander, have issues communicating, or have an obsession or attraction to things such as water or construction sites.

Examples of a Vulnerable Person include:

  • A person with Alzheimer's disease
  • A person with Autism Spectrum Disorder
  • A person with an acquired brain injury
  • A person with a mental condition that exhibits the above behaviours

Annual Renewal

You will receive a reminder of the upcoming renewal roughly two months before expiry. It is your responsibility to renew the information through the HRPS website.

How will this registry help my child/dependent?

If your child or dependent does go missing, the information provided about their physical appearance, routines, de-escalation techniques, and communication techniques will be available to every police officer searching for this person.

What information will I need to provide?

When registering your child or dependent, we will require the following information.

  • Name
  • Address
  • Contact information
  • Medical condition
  • De-escalation techniques
  • Tendencies or known routines
  • A recent photograph of the person (optional)

How will the police use this information?

During an emergency, every police officer assisting in locating your child or dependent can access the Vulnerable Person Registry.

If I don't live in the Halton region, can I still use the registry?

Yes, but only if the person you are registering attends school, daycare, work, or regularly attends the Halton region.

How soon will the information be available to police?

The information you submit will be available to officers within three to four days.

Who can view the registry?

Only police personnel who need this information in the performance of their duties will have access to the information.
