Update: Weapons Call at Georgetown School

Uniform and District Criminal Investigators have completed their investigation into the Georgetown District High School weapons incident and determined that the firearms that were reportedly sighted within the school were plastic replicas that several students had found from the school's Theatre Arts Department intended as theatre props.

After locating the replicas, it is alleged that the students began pointing them at other unsuspecting students within the school hallways, prompting school officials to call 911 and initiate a lockdown. Upon the lockdown, the involved students fled the school and discarded the replicas in and around the school property, all of which were later retrieved.

Police were able to identify and locate the four students; three of which were arrested and charged criminally.

Three male youths, 14, 16 and 17 years old respectively, are all facing charges of theft and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. The fourth male, a 15 year old, was released unconditionally as the investigation determined his involvement in the incident was minimal.

Police are asking anyone with further information regarding this incident to contact Det. Sgt. Ellie Bale at 905-825-4747 ext. 2415 or the on-duty Staff Sergeant at 905-825-4747 ext. 2410.
