Between August 19, and August 21, 2025, the Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) supported by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and the Ministry of Transportation (MTO) held a 3 day road safety blitz focusing on commercial motor vehicles (CMV).
The blitz was held with 1 day focused on each City and Town across Halton Region.
Commercial motor vehicles were selected by supporting Officers where they were inspected by the Certified CMV Inspectors from HRPS, MTO and OPP.
As a result of the campaign the following results were obtained:
- 82 CMV level 1 inspections
- 36 CMV’s placed out of service (44% Out of Service)
- 6 sets of licence plates seized
- 160 Provincial Offence Notices issued
- 2 written warnings issued
- 2 court summonses issued
“These results speak for themselves in terms of both the need and effectiveness of these campaigns to identify and remove unsafe or unfit commercial motor vehicles from our roadways. We will continue these similar efforts to keep our roads as safe as possible” said Staff Sergeant Ryan Smith; Traffic Services Unit.
The HRPS CMV Team will be participating in the upcoming Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliances North America wide Brake Safety week from August 24 to August 30; where CMV Inspectors across North America will be inspecting trucks and focusing on brake systems and components. https://cvsa.org/news/2025-bsw/
CMV Drivers and Operators are reminded to ensure proper daily/pre trip inspections are completed so that defects can be detected and repaired before their trucks hit the road.
