As thousands of Halton students headed back to school earlier this month, the Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) ramped up its education and enforcement efforts through its 18th annual Project Safe Start campaign, with the goal of reminding community members of the ABC’s of road safety – Always Be Cautious.
Between September 2 and 12, a combined 2,252 charges were laid and 637 warnings were issued across the Halton region. Two of the most common offences were disobeying stop signs and speeding.
“I’m tremendously thankful for our community partners, media, and members of the Halton region for continuing to advocate traffic safety to ensure Halton is a safe place to work, live, play, and learn,” said Stephen Tanner, Chief of Police for the HRPS.
“Although this year’s campaign has ended, road safety continues to be a year-round, shared responsibility. While we remain committed to enforcing the rules of the road, we ask drivers to please stay vigilant, especially in community safety zones. Watch your speed, obey stop signs, and always drive sober. Do your part to make everyone in our region feel safer.”
Residents are reminded to report any driving violations, or request enforcement of a particular area here. In an emergency, please dial 9-1-1.
