The Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) is pleased to announce that it has released its 2022 Annual Report to members of the public, community partners, and other key stakeholders. Launched as part of with Police Week, the report indicates that as the population of Halton Region surpassed 637,000 last year, HRPS officers responded to more than 134,000 calls for service. While a return to normalcy following three years of COVID-19-related measures led to increases in many categories of crime such as auto theft and residential break and enters, the Service reported an overall crime clearance rate of 40.8 per cent in 2022.

While our mandate is to promote and maintain public safety, achieving it is a true team effort,” said Stephen Tanner, Chief of Police. “This report highlights the tremendous work done, not only by our sworn and civilian members, but in unison with our partners and stakeholders, to ensure Halton remains Canada’s safest large municipality in which to live, work and raise a family.

Other highlights of the 56-page edition include a detailed statistical overview of crime regionally and by district, a summary of operational achievements and major projects, a re-cap of top news stories, and initiatives undertaken in partnership with various community groups in areas such as:

  • Auto theft
  • Sexual assault
  • Human trafficking, Internet child exploitation, and intimate partner violence
  • Youth engagement
  • Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, and
  • Mental health and substance misuse

The report also provides updates on ongoing efforts to recruit, select, train, and develop the talents of sworn and civilian members who reflect the rich diversity of one of Canada’s fastest-growing regions.

Broadly speaking, HRPS’ 2022 Annual Report reflects the priorities laid out in Halton’s Community Safety and Well-Being Plan as well as the Service’s 2020-2023 Strategic Plan.
