The Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) has made an arrest following a robbery investigation in Oakville.
On May 13, 2025, at approximately 1:15 a.m. the adult male victim attended a trail system in the area of Lakeshore Road West and East Street for a prearranged meet that was made with the male suspect through an online dating app. The suspect arrived wearing a ski mask which both males had agreed upon during prior correspondence.
During the meet the suspect became violent and punched the victim in the face and head causing the victim to fall to the ground. The suspect then stole the victims cell phone and fled the area. The victim did not sustain any serious physical injuries.
Investigators with the 2 District Criminal Investigations Bureau took carriage of the investigation and through a variety of investigative techniques were able to identify the accused.
On June 6, 2025, the accused was arrested and the victims cell phone was recovered.
As a result of the investigation Juan Amaya Cordero (25) of Oakville, was charged with Robbery and Possession of Property Obtained by Crime.
Amaya Cordero was released on an Undertaking with a future court date in Milton.
During correspondence with the victim the accused utilized the alias contact name of “Cruise”.
Police are concerned that there may be further victims and are requesting anyone who may have been victimized by the Amaya Cordero, or anyone who may have information regarding this investigation to contact the 2 District Criminal Investigations Bureau at 905-825-4777 ext. 2216.
