On Wednesday February 7, 2024, members of the Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) and Halton Hills Fire Department responded to a fire at a residential address on Victoria Street in Georgetown. 

Members of the Halton Hills Fire Department removed one occupant from the home who was tragically pronounced deceased at the scene. The fire destroyed two semi-detached dwellings.

HRPS officers have since arrested and charged an adult male who was the common law partner of the decedent. He also resided at this address.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Ontario Fire Marshall’s Office.

Christopher Dayfoot, (38) of Georgetown, is charged with;

  • Arson - Disregard for Human Life

The accused appeared in the Ontario Court of Justice on Friday, February 9, and has been remanded into custody pending a future court date.

The Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) is investigating a fatal fire in Georgetown.

On Wednesday February 7, 2024, at approximately 5:20 am, police were called to a residential home on Victoria Street in Georgetown. At the time of police arrival, the home was fully engulfed in flames and the fire was spreading to a neighbouring address. Neighbouring homes were evacuated by police and the fire was extinguished by the Halton Hills Fire Department.

Tragically, an adult female occupant of the primary residence was pronounced deceased at the scene. Police will not be identifying the woman at this time. No other occupants were found in the home and no further injuries were reported to police.

Members of the Halton Regional Police Criminal Investigations Branch and Major Crime Bureau are currently investigating the circumstances of this incident.
