The Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) has made an arrest and laid nearly a dozen charges after a search for a suspect involved in hit and run collisions in both Milton and Oakville.

On April 17, 2024, at approximately 12:15 pm the accused was driving a stolen red Jeep Cherokee at a high rate of speed and proceeded through a red light at the intersection of Louis St. Laurent Avenue and Farmstead Drive in Milton. The stolen Jeep struck another vehicle that contained a four-year-old child. Fortunately, the child was not seriously injured however the driver of the vehicle was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The suspect fled the scene in the stolen Jeep (reported stolen out of Kitchener) and was observed to be wearing a black balaclava. 

Shortly after the collision, the vehicle was spotted by officers driving southbound on Highway 25. The suspect did not stop for police and continued at a high rate of speed towards Oakville.

Just before 1:00 pm on the same date, the Jeep was involved in a second collision. This collision took place at The Canadian Road near the Ford Assembly Plant in Oakville. Fortunately, no persons were seriously hurt as a result of this collision.

The suspect then fled the scene of the second collision on foot and attempted to rob an employee in the parking lot of the Ford plant of their vehicle keys. This attempt to steal their vehicle keys was unsuccessful and the suspect fled into some brush located north of the plant.

Police were called to the area and conducted a search which included the use of K9 officers. The suspect was located and arrested hiding in the bushes at approximately 1:40 pm.  

Saqr Kinani (24) of No fixed Address has been charged with the following offences:

  • Fail to Stop for Accident (2 counts)
  • Dangerous Drive (2 counts)
  • Flight from Police 
  • Drive while Disqualified
  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order (2 counts)
  • Possession of Stolen Property over $5,000 
  • Disguise with Intent 
  • Robbery 

Kinani was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
