Media Update:

As a result of the investigation into the armed robbery,

Michael Uzelac (37), of Welland, has been charged with the following:

  • Occupant of a Motor Vehicle Knowing there was a Firearm
  • Armed Robbery Using a Firearm
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000

Stephane SMITH (54), of Niagara Falls, has been charged with the following:

  • Armed Robbery Using a Firearm
  • Utter Threat to Cause Death or Bodily Harm
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000
  • Pointing a Firearm
  • Firearm – Use While Committing an Offence
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm in a Motor Vehicle 

Both accused have been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Halton Regional Police Service officers were called to the Royal Bank at 3030 Mainway in Burlington at approximately 3:30 p.m. this afternoon following reports of an armed robbery.

Two suspects fled the area in a vehicle and were located by police a short distance away. One suspect was immediately taken into custody, however the second suspect remained in the vehicle and in possession of a firearm. Police began negotiations which were successful. The second suspect has been taken into custody. The Halton Regional Police Service would like to thank the public for their patience and cooperation. An update will be provided upon completion of the investigation.
