The City of Burlington covers an area of 186 square kilometres and has a population of close to 174,000 (2011 figure). To ensure residents and visitors receive the highest standard of policing services, Halton Regional Police Service operations are divided into distinct team areas with police officers assigned to each community.
Patrol responsibilities within 3 District Burlington are divided among four platoons or shifts. Each platoon is led by one Staff Sergeant who is also responsible for an assigned team area.
Halton Regional Police Service 3 District Burlington operations are also supported by Sergeants, the District's Criminal Investigation Bureau (CIB), civilian and volunteer staff.
Superintendent Bob Gourley

Superintendent Bob Gourley joined the Halton Regional Police Service in 2000 after moving to Canada form Northern Ireland. He started his policing career as a constable in the City of Burlington working primarily in the downtown core.
Since joining the service, Bob has worked in various units throughout the service including the Prisoner Escort Unit, Criminal Investigations Bureau, Uniform Staff Sergeant in Milton and the Court Bureau also in Milton which oversees all the courts throughout the region.
After being promoted to the rank of Inspector in 2016 and returning to Burlington where his career began, Bob was promoted to Superintendent in 2020 continues being actively involved with the various stakeholders and community representatives in Burlington to ensure we stay focused on how best to address any issues as they arise.
Bob is an avid football (soccer) player, coach and supporter following TFC and Northern Ireland.
Inspector Ivan L'Ortye

Inspector Ivan L’Ortye joined the Halton Regional Police Service in 1985 and began his policing career as a uniformed patrol officer in #2 District – Oakville. He has subsequently served throughout the Region in a number of roles and units, including: Uniform Patrol, Criminal Investigations, Emergency Services, Training, Human Resources, Regional Community Mobilization and District Operations.
Ivan previously served as the Executive Officer to Chief Stephen Tanner was assigned to the #3 District Command Team in December of 2018. He is committed to Community Safety and Well-being in our growing and diverse population.
Ivan is responsible for Uniform Patrol Operations in the City of Burlington.
